Flu Clinics 2020

The Practice is please to announce the dates for our seasonal flu clinics for the 2020/21 season.

In light of the additional challenges brought along by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Practice has had to adjust and change the way we offer the flu vaccine this year.

In order to ensure the safety of all our patients and staff members, it is vital that we follow governmental guidelines on social distancing and infection control. For all clinics this year we will be:

  • Asking all patients to pre-book their slot for their preferred clinic and arrive as close to their appointment time as possible to avoid crowding. We will not be able to vaccinate any patient who attends without an appointment.
  • Asking that patients attend alone where possible to reduce unnecessary footfall.
  • Asking that patients wear a face covering where possible whilst on Practice premises for the safety of those most at risk.
  • Implementing a social distancing queuing system to help better control the flow of patients through the clinic. Unfortunately this will mean there will be no parking facilities at any of our clinics held at Tramways.

If you wish to check your eligibility for the flu vaccine this year, please take a look at the information provided at www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/flu-influenza-vaccine/

Adults Over-65 and At-risk Patients (18+)

Slots for all of our main flu clinics will be available to book from Wednesday 2nd September by calling our Reception team on 0114 234 5338. (We would recommend calling late morning to avoid times when the phone lines are busiest). Please do not attend in person to book as this may put you at risk and we will be unable to take requests in person.

Saturday 19th September - 9am until 1pm - Middlewood Medical Centre

Saturday 26th September - 9am until 1pm - Tramways Medical Centre

Saturday 10th October      - 9am until 1pm - Middlewood Medical Centre

Saturday 24th October      - 9am until 1pm - Tramways Medical Centre

Unfortunately, in order to avoid a clash with the flu clinic being held by the adjacent GP surgery, the clinic at Tramways on the  17th October has been cancelled. The GPs feel that it is in the best interests of our patients to avoid any unnecessary contacts and so this clinic has been rearranged.

Please be aware that no parking will be available at our Tramways clinics due to the use of the car park for the queuing system. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Adults between 50 and 65 years old

The government recently announced that this year the scope of the flu vaccine has been increased to include patients who are between 50 and 65 years old due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Practice has been advised that these patients will be offered the vaccine from November onward. Unfortunately we are unable to vaccinate this group during the clinics above but further information on these special clinics will be available shortly.

Children's Flu Vaccines 2020

The Practice is currently awaiting delivery of the children's flu vaccine for 2020. After experiencing delays in previous years, we are expecting to hold specialist children-only vaccine clinics from November. We hope that this will aid in speeding up the vaccination process as well as ensuring that the risk to children and other patients remains as low as possible. Further information will be available shortly.
